Fifty years ago, if you saw a robot at all it would most likely have been in the form of a giant movie prop terrorizing a cardboard city. Now, you have to lift your feet so your robot can vacuum under the couch. The next set of advances will bring changes nobody is ready for. By watching how robots are perceived and portrayed in popular culture, hopefully we can all gain insight for the day when the robots rise up against us/become our tireless friends and companions (the jury is still out).
